Katherine J. Grindon is the Director of Instruction (Assistant Principal) at Southern High School in Louisville, KY. A veteran educator with over a decade of classroom experience, Grindon specializes in secondary education, curriculum development, teacher training, critical literacy, leadership/coaching, and the implementation of the Common Core State Standards (CCSS). She holds National Board Certification in the field of Early Adolescent English/Language Arts, is nationally certified as a Cognitive Coach, Adaptive Schools Coach, and Literacy Design Collaborative Expert Coach, and is a member of the adjunct faculty of the University of Louisville, teaching courses in English/Language Arts methods, disciplinary literacy, and coaching.
Grindon has served in various leadership roles at the school, district, and state levels, including an appointment to the Kentucky Department of Education Teacher Leadership Network on Senate Bill 1 from 2010-2013. Her scholarship on critical literacy and the CCSS has been published in the NCTE journal Language Arts, and she regularly presents her work at national conventions including the National Council of Teachers of English and the Association of Middle Level Educators. She has been interviewed by Time magazine and the Louisville, Ky Courier-Journal regarding implementation of the CCSS.
Grindon received her BA in English from Vanderbilt University and her PhD from the University of Louisville. A native of Atlanta, Ga, Grindon lives in Louisville, Ky.
